For the past year Spokane artists, Scott Kolbo and Lance Sinnema have collaborated on performance based video pieces inspired by the increasingly volatile language that surrounds our current political discourse. Kolbo and Sinnema investigated the forums that host our contemporary political arguments, collecting phrases and words from newscasts, political advertisements, and the comments posted beneath on-line political articles. The artist’s then converted this virtual content into physical weaponry used to bludgeon their opponents into submission. The video projections and drawings on display in the Saranac Art Projects Gallery serve as documentation of these performances, as well as a damning indictment of our inability to debate each other rationally. Thankfully they they are also hilarious slapstick comedy.

Kolbo and Sinnema are interested in the use of humor in serious art, as well as exploring the way that the use of violent and vitriolic language has escalated in our current political culture. As a part of the exhibit the artists invite the audience to participate in the sacred democratic act of voting. The results of this vote will directly influence the outcome of the final battle the artists will wage at the close of the exhibit on March 31 at 5:30 pm. The public is urged to attend this event and witness this political grudge match for the new century.
