Jen Vaughn has been the librarian at the Shultz Library<http://www.cartoonstudies.org/schulz/blog/?page_id=2> since 2009, a powerfully awesome comic and graphic novel repository for her alma mater and our fantasy school the Center for Cartoon Studies, (CCS) one of only a few colleges in the United states that offers an MFA in comics:
Anyway that is cool right? But what does it have to do with the Inland Northwest? Well Jen recently accepted a job for the Seattle based powerhouse independent publisher Fantagraphics (http://www.fantagraphics.com/) who have published probably the most culturally significant names in comics including R. Crumb, Peter Bagge, Carol Tyler, Chris Ware and Joe Sacco and countless others.
Jen will be moving to Seattle and since this is a big point of pride for CCS is doing a PR tour for the school doing portfolio reviews and handing out coupons for summer workshops and application fee waivers to start taking classes at CCS. She also just wants to kick it and draw for two days. I could probably convince her to do a drink and draw with us or something more all ages.
Sat June 9th At the Saranac Art Projects from 2 until 4.
We think Jen would be a valuable connection for our community to make with both CCS and Fantagraphics so that we could start featuring visiting comic artists in the area. We want Spokane and the Inland Northwest on the map creating cultural noise.
